David Beckham: 'We can beat Barcelona'

David Beckham is optimistic of reaching the Champions League semi-finals with PSG ©
April 9, 2013

David Beckham is confident Paris Saint-Germain have what it takes to end Barcelona's 20-game unbeaten home record and reach the Champions League semi-finals. Barcelona host Wednesday's quarter-final second leg and head into the game as firm favourites following last week's 2-2 draw in Paris.

A L'Equipe survey published on Tuesday showed 67% of French football fans feel their country's last representative in the competition will fall in Spain but, Beckham, 37, believes PSG can become the first team to claim a Champions League win at Barca since Rubin Kazan more than four years ago. "We have the ability to win the match. We have the players," the former England captain told beIN Sport. "It's a battle for 90 minutes every time you play Barcelona.

They have a lot of the ball, and it's always tough to play against teams like that, but we're capable of going to Barcelona and winning the match." PSG's leading scorer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, is well-acquainted with the Camp Nou, having played for the Blaugrana for a season. A rare lack of success during his time there, and his subsequent well-publicised criticism of then-coach Pep Guardiola, means the Sweden international's return is hotly anticipated.

The 2,300 travelling fans will be hoping the 31-year-old can help secure a shock result, but Beckham believes PSG's success has been built on much more than Ibrahimovic's prodigious talents. "Our team is united," he said. "Of course people expect a lot of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, that he's a leader with all his goals and that he scores. He's really a great player. He's been a key player at every club he's been at. He's a highly visible player for many people, but we have other important players, very talented players. We really play as a team."

PSG needed a controversial Ibrahimovic goal and Blaise Matuidi's injury-time equaliser to merely hold the visitors at the Parc des Princes, leaving L'Equipe to calculate they had only a 20% chance of making it through to the last four for the second time in the club's history. "I don't think the first-leg result was perfect," Beckham, a surprise starter in Paris, said. "Perfect is to win, especially when you're at home, but it's not too bad. We know what we have to do in Barcelona. We have to score and win the game."

David Beckham would welcome England playing return

Former England captain David Beckham says he has not given up hope of playing for his country in the future.

The Paris St-Germain midfielder told CNN: "I'm almost 38 so the chances are very slight, but you never know."
Beckham is England's most capped outfield player with 115 caps, but has not featured since October 2009. "One of the reasons I never retired from the England team is because, if there's ever an opportunity to play for them again, I'm available," he said. Beckham is in the PSG squad for the home leg of their Champions League quarter-final with Barcelona on Tuesday. "If there is any chance of me ever playing for my country again, I would never turn that down," he added. The former Manchester United and Real Madrid player has mainly appeared as a substitute for PSG, but the club have said they want to keep him beyond his current contract. Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said: "As a man, player, ambassador, he is exceptional." PSG team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 31, said Beckham's move to the French club has already been a success. "He has a big impact on the team, he has a lot of qualities," the striker explained. "He is a winner and he has a great feel for the ball. He brings us his experience of big matches. He's also a player with a big heart, who has won a lot of trophies."

No Spice Reunion

For the last few months, Mel B and Geri Halliwell have been dropping hints about the Spice Girls reunion, getting us all excited about the thought of bouncing around to Stop (of course we still know the dance, who doesn’t?) this summer.

Everyone suspected that they would be performing at the Olympics opening ceremony, but Mel B said in January: “Ooh, I think the Queen's Jubilee concert is the event I'd be looking at more closely for that to happen.”

Geri then practically confirmed the Spice Girls gig, telling reporters last month: “My pop career is about to come back. It's my first love.”
Mel C told new! magazine today that all the rumours are false. When asked about the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee performance, Mel said: “Yep, not true.

“It was an honour to be asked, but not everyone is comfortable about doing it so we have to respect each other’s feelings about that.”
On meeting with the rest of the Spice Girls, Mel C said: “I saw them all apart from Mel B in January. She was only not there because she was in Los Angeles.

“In March she’s coming over. We’re all getting together. Myself, Geri and Emma all live in London and Victoria and Mel live in Los Angeles. When they come to London is usually when we see each other.”
She said: “We had lunch with all the kids.

“The older ones are quite protective. Scarlet and Bluebell get on well because they’re the girls that are closest in ages. Scarlett and Beau like playing together too. The older Beckham boys take care of the little ones.”

--------------------------------------------

THE website for the Irish Hospice Foundation crashed last night when Victoria Beckham tweeted a link to the charity after receiving a gift from Bono for baby Harper of a book he did in aid of the charity in 2003.

Victoria Beckham tweeted last night: “Thanks Bono and Ali for Harper's supercool Peter and the Wolf book!” The fashion designer then gave a link to the book cover and tweeted a link to the Irish Hospice Foundation website to her two and a half million Twitter followers.

Caroline Lynch of the Irish Hospice Foundation confirmed that after the fashion designer tweeted the link and it was retweeted on Twitter, the charity’s website crashed under the high volume of traffic from people trying to get onto the site and buy the book.

“The site went down from the number of people who were trying to get on and buy the book,” she said.

The book produced in 2003 by Bono and Gavin Friday contains 64 pages of Bono's original paintings and illustrations from his daughters Jordan and Eve.

The singer is set to enjoy a beautiful payday with a reputed windfall of €1.1bn from his Facebook investment it was reported this week.

GLAAD angry over CNN analyst Roland Martin's David Beckham tweet

CNN analyst Roland Martin (perhaps better known to "Daily Show" viewers as the noted ascot-wearer Roland Martin) is working furiously to explain himself after a controversial tweet he sent Sunday night criticizing an H&M ad featuring David Beckham.

Midway through the Super Bowl, Martin sent a tweet making fun of the black-and-white ad that showed the soccer star dressed only in his tighty-whiteys: "Ain't no real bruhs going to H&M to buy some damn David Beckham underwear!" He continued, "If a dude at your Super Bowl party is hyped about David Beckham's H&M underwear ad, smack the ish out of him!"

The tweet has raised the ire of many online, who accused Martin of gay bashing. GLAAD, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, has launched an online petition calling on CNN to fire Martin after his tweets.

Martin defended himself this morning, both on Twitter and in a post on his website, RolandMartinReports.com.

On Twitter, Martin wrote, "Fam, let me address the issue that some in the LGBT community have raised regarding some of my Super Bowl tweets yesterday. I made several cracks about soccer as I do all the time. I was not referring to sexuality directly or indirectly regarding the David Beckham ad, and I'm sorry folks took it otherwise. It was meant to be a deliberately over the top and sarcastic crack about soccer; I do not advocate violence of any kind against anyone gay, or not. As anyone who follows me on Twitter knows, anytime soccer comes up during football season it's another chance for me to take a playful shot at soccer, nothing more."

GLAAD isn't having it, however. On its website, the organization is pointing out a series of insensitive comments and jokes Martin has made about gay people over the years.

"This isn't a mistake made on Twitter. It's part of a pattern of anti-LGBT rhetoric that culminated in two tweets yesterday promoting violence towards gay people," GLAAD spokesman Rich Ferraro said.

David Beckham to announce new Galaxy deal on Thursday

David Beckham is coming back to the Galaxy.

The star midfielder, whose record five-year, $32.5-million contract with the Major League Soccer club expired Dec. 31, will announce Thursday that he has reached agreement on a new contract for the 2012 season, which begins in March. Details of the contract were not immediately available but it is expected to call for a summer sabbatical from MLS play, allowing Beckham to play for the English team in the London Olympics.

Beckham, who turns 38 in May, was offered an 18-month contract with French club Paris-St. Germaine that would have paid him $1 million a month.

But Beckham, who has long said family concerns would play the biggest role in deciding where he would play, turned down that offer last month because his wife and four children enjoy living in Southern California.

Beckham had the most productive season of his short MLS career last year, playing 26 games and recording 15 assists, the second-highest total in the league.

That not only won him Comeback Player of the Year honors and a spot on the postseason Best XI, but it also helped the Galaxy to an MLS title, giving Beckham national titles in three countries.

David Beckham continúa en el LA Galaxy. Lo anunciará este jueves.

David Beckham: No Paris.

--------------------------------------------------

The Beckhams' American dream is set to continue, with the news that David will most probably stay at LA Galaxy.

Paris St. Germain confirmed that he wouldn't be moving to the French club.

It had been thought the sports hero would join a European team to boost his chances of being selected to play in the Olympics.

David is now reportedly in negotiations over a two-year extension with the Galaxy, who he joined in 2007.

"It's over," the club's sporting director Leonardo said. "It's a shame. But the welfare of his family in Los Angeles, the wish not to change everything in his life, weighed heavily."

He and Victoria's three sons are settled in America school.

And their daughter Harper is only six months old.

The family have an extensive circle of Hollywood friends, including Eva Longoria, Heidi Klum and Seal, the Cruises and Kate Beckinsale.

Report: Beckham, Paris team near deal
By Scott French
Special to ESPNLosAngeles.com

Paris Saint-Germain's pursuit of Galaxy midfielder David Beckham is "95 percent complete," French sports daily L'Equipe reported Monday, citing inside sources at the club.

Neither Beckham nor his representatives made mention of such a deal, and the English superstar hinted during the Australian leg of the Galaxy's postseason tour that he wouldn't be making a decision until after Christmas.

L'Equipe reported the club has made an 18-month offer worth $18.7 million to Beckham, whose five-year contract with the Galaxy expires at the end of December. The transfer window in France is open all of January.

The Galaxy also has made an offer to Beckham, who also has been pursued by Tottenham and Queens Park Rangers, both based in his native London. If he chooses to leave L.A., PSG is his likely destination -- the Qatari-owned club is looking to capitalize on Beckham's celebrity in a number of commercial ventures.

The Galaxy's owners, Anschutz Entertainment Group, are believed to have dangled an executive position within AEG.

"I can tell you that as of today, it's certainly not a done deal," Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said Monday. "I think the Galaxy are very much interested in bringing David back. Again, it will be David's decision, but we're keenly interested in keeping the player here."

Beckham made $5.5 million per year, plus $5 million in additional compensation, during his contract with the Galaxy.

Arena also said negotiations continue on new deals with defender/midfielder Sean Franklin and midfielder Juninho.

Franklin, an MLS All-Star in 2011 who has played most of his career at right back but is perhaps better suited as a right-sided midfielder, is out of contract. Arena said the Galaxy have made him an offer.

"It's his prerogative whether to accept the offer or not," Arena said. "If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen, and we have to move on. … Hopefully, we can get something done this week."

Juninho's situation is more complicated. His loan from Brazilian giant Sao Paulo has expired, and the Galaxy would like to acquire him in a transfer. "He has an offer, knows where we stand," Arena said. "[Sao Paulo] knows that, his agent knows that, they just have to make a decision."

Arena said the league's salary cap will be $2.81 million in 2012.

David Beckham: 'Ganar una medalla de oro para Inglaterra sería lo máximo para mí''.

David Beckham: ‘To win gold for Britain would be the ultimate for me’
David Beckham has admitted he is “amazed” by the number of offers he has had and believes he can play on until he is 40.

The former England captain is weighing up where to continue his remarkable career when the US Major League Soccer season ends on November 20.

In an interview with Telegraph Sport, he said he was seriously considering staying with Los Angeles Galaxy but that if he did move, he would insist that any club he joins gives him a regular starting place so he can realize his ambition of leading the British team to gold in next year’s Olympics.

Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City are among the clubs who have shown interest in the 36 year-old, but Beckham revealed there have been several other enquiries.

“I have had a lot of offers and I must say that I’m amazed that, at my age, I have had so many. Its been a bit of a surprise,” he said.

What has occurred to Beckham, however, is that by staying at LA Galaxy he can significantly extend a playing career that began with a substitute’s appearance for Manchester United in a League Cup game with Brighton in 1992.

Almost exactly 19 years later he ran the show for LA Galaxy on Sunday night as they beat Chivas USA 1-0 to finish their regular season unbeaten at home. Afterwards he acknowledged the Galaxy fans on a lap of honor, but even if he does leave the club next month, it is unlikely to have been final appearance at their Home Depot Center ground; Galaxy will have home advantage in the playoffs.

Beckham said: “I have to see how my body feels once the playoffs are over, but I love it here and there is a real chance I will stay, especially if my family are happy.”

David Beckham calls himself ‘very patriotic.’

A number of Premier League clubs are among Beckham’s suitors but it seems increasingly unlikely he will return to England. He has previously expressed how difficult he would find it to play against Manchester United and also knows that the demands of the English game may now be physically beyond him.

Just as importantly, he does not wish to make himself a very big, very famous target to attack and privately he fears that if he were to make a grand return and fail — he does, after all suffer frequently from a bad back — ‘Brand Beckham’ could take a beating, jeopardizing his chance of being included as an over-age player in the Great Britain team at the London 2012 Olympics.

He has no such concerns with LA Galaxy, where Coach Bruce Arena affords him a quarterback-style role in which he continues to exhibit his exquisite passing and crossing. This season he has a 15 assists to his name, prompting him to believe he could even carry on until he hits 40. Asked whether that was a realistic proposition, Beckham nodded keenly: “I think so”.

He added: “What will actually happen next I still can’t say, but what is very important in the decision in terms of what I do, be it staying here, or going to PSG or wherever, is that I get enough time on the pitch because I want to be part of the Olympics.

“I’ve made no secret of that. Even to be in the team would be incredible. To be part of that Olympic spirit and to be able to win gold for Britain would be the ultimate [goal] for me.

“The fact that we’ve got the Olympics in the east end of London where I grew up, the fact that I could be part of that and that I could be out there trying to win gold would mean a hell of a lot to me because I am very patriotic.

“So whoever I sign for, to make sure I would be ready to make that attempt, I would have to be playing regularly.”

Galaxy would happily oblige, and Arena is still amazed by the veteran midfielder’s enthusiasm.

“David wants to play in every game and in every minute of every game. I had a word with him about that the other day but unfortunately I didn’t have a crowbar with me!” the coach said.

“He has been a great signing for Galaxy, a great signing for the MLS and we would like him to stay longer. We will see, for David will do what he thinks is best for him at the end of the season.”

David beckham ...French?

Leicester City manager, Sven-Goran Eriksson, ended speculation David would be playing for the Foxes, telling the BBC, “It’s not going to happen. David knows we would take him, but if he wants to come to us he will phone me.”

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain coach Antoine Kombouare refused to address reports that David might be close to striking a deal with the French team.

Bend It Like Beckham, the film which made a star of Keira Knightley, is to be turned into a West End musical.

“The script is ready to go,” the director Gurinder Chadha tells Mandrake at the London premiere of The Help. “It’s going to be on both the West End and Broadway. We are currently deciding who is the right person to write the score, so it’s at a really exciting stage.”

Sadly, the show, which will be produced by Sonia Friedman, will not see Knightley make her musical debut. “There are no plans for Keira to reprise the role, lovely though it sounds,” says her spokesman.

David Beckham: Sir Bobby Robson Auction & Ball

SOCCER superstar David Beckham has backed an auction in honour of Sir Bobby Robson.

Some of the biggest names in football are supporting the Sir Bobby Robson Breakthrough Auction and Ball, which will run online from October 8 to 23.

England boss Fabio Capello is giving fans the chance to attend a training session with the national team, while Real Madrid chief Jose Mourinho – who worked with Sir Bobby at Barcelona – has handed over the FIFA Ballon D’Or World Coach of the Year award he won with Inter Milan in 2010 to go under the hammer.

Organisers hope to raise £250,000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, which he set up before his death in July 2009.

Now former England captain Beckham has got onboard and will donate an LA Galaxy football shirt and an Adidas football, which will be personalised for the winning bidder.

It is the second time the star has helped out Sir Bobby’s charity. In May 2008, he donated a prize to a dinner hosted by Newcastle United at St James’s Park in aid of the foundation.

Sir Bobby’s son Mark said: “I’m very grateful to David for supporting the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation once again. I know dad had a very high opinion of him, both as a player and away from football.

“Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough Auction is a very exciting and ambitious venture, and the support we’re receiving is incredible and much appreciated. It will give people the chance to bid for prizes which wouldn’t normally be available, and raise a great deal of money for two wonderful cancer charities in the process.”

More than 100 prizes have so far been donated to the auction, which will be followed by a fundraising ball in Bury St Edmunds, on October 20.

Gina Long, founder of the auction and ball, said she is overwhelmed by the latest donations.

Speaking after a visit to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation Centre, at the Freeman Hospital, in Newcastle, this week, she said: “Having just visited the centre it certainly makes you reflect as to why the funding is so crucially needed, and that someone like David Beckham has donated two such special auction prizes is a reflection of the wonderful love and respect for Sir Bobby.”

David Beckham: No Crew

---------------------------------------

English star David Beckham has returned to Los Angeles and will not play for the Galaxy on Saturday against the Crew in Crew Stadium.

A Galaxy spokesman said the decision was made by coach Bruce Arena.

“He hasn’t played three games in a week the whole year,” Arena said.

Saturday’s game will be the third in eight days for the Galaxy, which beat visiting Vancouver on Saturday and lost a CONCACAF Champions league game on Wednesday on an artificial surface in Costa Rica.

“It was a terrible field, not a great field to have sandwiched in between two league games,” Arena said.

Beckham played 78 minutes against Vancouver and played all 90 minutes in Costa Rica. He traveled with the team to Columbus before flying to Los Angeles.

Beckham has played in only one of the five games Los Angeles has played in Crew Stadium since he joined the league in 2007. He played in 2008 but missed games in 2007, ’09 and ’10 because of injuries.

David Beckham - Australia sold out

En 48 horas, se vendieron 11.000 entradas para el partido LA Galaxy - Melbourne Voctory.
Los dos equipos se enfrentarán el 6 de diciembre en el Estadio Etihad, Australia.
--------------------------------------

David Beckham’s next trip to Australia is gaining plenty of exposure just two days after tickets were released for sale.

In 48 hours, more than 11,000 tickets have been purchased for LA Galaxy’s meeting with Melbourne Victory at Etihad Stadium on December 6.

A spokesperson for tour organisers Tribal Sports Management said that Galaxy president Tom Payne would soon be on Australian shores to oversee things in the build-up to the clash which will feature Beckham, Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan up against the likes of Harry Kewell and Archie Thompson.

“There are some exciting announcements to follow shortly coupled with the visit next week from LA Galaxy President Tom Payne,” said the TSM spokesperson.

“Victory are expecting their Chairman's Dinner to attract lots of interest given many members are choosing to have their Christmas parties at Etihad that night,” added the spokesperson.

"We’re very happy with ticket sales to date. All corporate suites have sold but there are still lots of dining packages available.”

The Galaxy’s other two visits down under have been very successful with a trip to Sydney a few years ago followed by last summer’s visit to Newcastle to take on the Jets and it seems as though this year’s meeting with two-time A-League champions the Victory will also be a hit.

Becks flattered by interest
Former England captain admits 'it's nice to still be wanted'

The 36-year-old has been touted for a return to the Premier League with Tottenham and QPR both revealing their interest in the player.

And although the former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder has held talks with Galaxy president Tim Leiweke, he admits 'it's nice to still be wanted.'

He told Sky Sports News: "I've got a lot of friends in different teams around England and around Europe, so I'm in constant contact with people, but I've heard the rumours about European teams being after me.

"It's always nice to be wanted especially at 36-years-old to still be wanted by some of these big teams and some of these great managers.

Rumours
"Obviously there are rumours but there have always been rumours about me going places and about me moving back to places.

"At the moment I'm a Galaxy player and I'll continue to be. As I've said, at the end of the season, obviously my contract's up, but I'm happy here."

And in regard to a new one-year contract offer from the Galaxy, Beckham replied: "We've spoken and I've spoken with Tim (Leiweke) and we've talked through it.

"But Tim knows that I need to wait until the end of the season just to see how I feel physically."

Victoria Beckham has set a date for unveiling her post-baby body and she has been making sacrifices in preparation.

Victoria, 37, will unveil her new collection at New York Fashion Week on September 11, just two months after the birth of daughter Harper Seven.

‘Victoria has locked herself away at her Malibu holiday home where she has imposed a strict food regime,’ I’m told.

‘She has instructed her chef to do a no-carb, no-sugar diet of just green vegetables and low-fat proteins.’
Within days of giving birth to her first baby girl, Victoria Beckham had tweeted her joy about the new addition to the Beckham brood.

News

Victoria Beckham lives quite the demanding life, what with a Hollywood-based home full of kids and a British-based business. How can the pop star-turned-designer be in two places at once? Skype, of course!

In the Autumn/Winter 2011 issue of ELLE Collections, Beckham explained:

"When I'm here in London, which is for about a week every month it's really, really full-on. Then, when I'm back in the US, I use Skype to talk with my team -- usually wearing either a dressing gown or a bikini."
Working while tanning -- that sounds about right for the Queen of Multi-Tasking. The designer recently said she wouldn't be taking time off after giving birth to baby Harper Seven, joking to Glamour UK, "Maternity leave -- what's that?"

The former-Posh Spice emphasized to ELLE that she's "just like another working mum out there" and not a spoiled housewife, like some might assume:

"Contrary to what people think, I'm not one of those women who likes to go for lunch with friends and then go spend a fortune on Chanel handbags. I'm sure that's great, but it's not me. I work and I have my kids: I just don't have the time. So [instead of shopping] I get a lot of clothes on Net-a-Porter and I wear my own stuff."
Incidentally, her customers are just as big fans of Net-a-Porter as she is. Earlier this year, Beckham's line of handbags sparked a buying frenzy after they hit Net-A-Porter, with one style selling out in 60 seconds and another gone within hours.

Those rabid Victoria Beckham fans may have something new to look forward to. Beckham mentioned to ELLE Collections that she will be launching something new this September at Spring/Summer 2012 Fashion Week in New York.

David and Victoria Beckham have found an expensive way to remember their daughter as a newborn - casting her hands and feet in gold.

They've made no secret of the fact that they are completely smitten with new daughter Harper Seven, and despite revealing last week that they'd like another baby, the Beckhams have decided to remember how small Harper once was by getting casts of her hands and feet - pretty normal, until you see that Harper's casts will be made of gold!

Using a £1,000 kit from First Impressions, David and Victoria have gently imprinted Harper's tiny toes and little fingers into the casts, which are then sent back to the London based company to be finished.
Posh and Becks had made no secret of the fact that they were longing for a baby girl before Harper came along, and it seems the wait was well worth it! Victoria has tweeted that she has "fallen in love" with her newborn daughter, and pictures of the pair holding their beautiful baby have been hits on the internet.

A family friend of the Beckhams told the media; "Harper's so precious and such a beautiful little girl they wanted a physical representation of how she is now, just a few weeks after her birth. David and Victoria can't stop smiling and are the proudest parents on Earth." reported Now Magazine.

David took some time off from admiring his newborn baby and playing for LA Galaxy to take his sons out on the water, and they appeared to be having a whale of a time!

Harper Seven is sure to be a gorgeous little girl - and going by interviews the celebrity parents have given, she won't want for anything. Dad David revealed that the house is now full of pink and purple, and Victoria gave up her gym to make a specially designed nursery for their new bundle of joy.

All eyes will be on the couple for the next few months, after David revealed that they'd like to have another - stating that 5 would be the perfect number. Harper is only 21 days old, being born on July 10th 2011, but the World will eagerly await the appearance of another gorgeous Beckham child - just look at their adorable, well behaved sons!
