Clooney has lent Beckham the luxurious £4million lakeside retreat as he waits to see if LA Galaxy will agree to release him from his five-year contract. The villa, on Lake Como, is just half an hour from Beckham's Milan base.

A source in Italy told Hello! magazine: 'George has really taken David under his wing since the transfer trouble started. At the house, David is able to get away from everything, relax and switch off in private.'

Contrary to reports claiming that soccer stud David Beckham was moving into George Clooney's Lake Como villa in Italy, E! has confirmed the news is (sadly) not true!

"One hundred percent not true," Clooney's rep said of the report. "George is filming in America at this time. He is not renting the house to anyone, and that would include David."

Hello Magazine first reported that Becks was subletting the pricey pad from Clooney and that the two became friends after they were introduced by Giorgio Armani at last year's Met Ball.
