Donovan ha criticado la decición de David Beckham de irse por un tiempo al AC Milan durante sus primeros tiempos en el Galaxy. Beckham respondió describiendo a su compañero de equipo norteamericano como ''poco profesional'' pero han resuelto sus diferencias y Donovan no hace más que elogiar la influencia positiva que tiene David Beckham en el juego en los Estados Unidos.
Donovan dijo a la prensa: ''David ha sido fabuloso en todo sentido. Pienso que elpodrá decirte que al principio le costaba entender la forma en que jugamos en Estados Unidos. Pero se ha adaptado muy bien, como siempre lo hace, y antes de su lesión ya era una parte importante de nuestro equipo el año pasado. Fuera de la cancha, ha traído conciencia a nuestro juego, la cual antes no existía. Hubiera sido disferente si lo hubiera hecho de forma subconciente, sin saberlo y sin esforzarse en lograrlo, pero ha puesto mucho empeño en ayudar a crecer al fútbol en nuestro país y todos nosotros apreciamos eso.''

Donovan had been critical of Beckham's decision to join AC Milan on loan for the first spell from LA Galaxy.
Beckham responded by describing Galaxy team-mate Donovan as "unprofessional, but the pair have sorted out their differences and Donovan has nothing but praise for Beckham's positive influence on the game in the USA.
He said: "David has been terrific in every way. I think he will tell you initially on the field it was difficult for him to understand the way the game was played (in America).
"But he has adapted well, as he always does, and before he was injured he was a big part of our team last year.
"Off the field, he has almost single-handedly brought an awareness to our game that wasn't there before.
"It would be one thing if he did that subconsciously without knowing and without putting effort into it but he puts a lot into helping grow the game in our country and we all appreciate that."
