Beckham también reveló que buscó el consejo del jefe de inglaterra, el italiano Fabio Capello, quien ha trabajado con David en el Real Madrid también.

"Siempre tuve y sigo teniendo mucho respeto hacia él. Cuando me puse a pensar en esta transferencia le pedí consejos.
''Le había dicho que prefería jugar para el Milan pero quería jugar en Italia porque quería ser un jugador de primer nivel.

''Pero me pidió solo jugar en el primer nivel. Este es un equipo excepcional, solo tienes que ver la carrera de Maldini para darte cuenta de eso.

Carlo Ancelotti, el entrenador del Milan dijo que David debe ganarse su lugar en el equipo, a pesar de la larga ausencia del jugador Gennaro Gattuso quien ha sufrido un desgarro en las rodillas.

''Éles un jugador serio y muy profesional y le damos la bienvenida: el club, los fans y los jugadores.
''David puede jugar en cualquier posicion a travéz del medio campo y mucho se hablado de sus tiros libros pero lo importante es la forma en que entrena.
''Y si merece jugar, jugará. Es un contrato raro? Bueno, solo porque nunca se ha hecho antes pero personalmente, estoy muy feliz de que David esté aqui.''

[Recuerden que Gattuso dijo que el pase le parece muy raro y no cree que David deba ocupar su lugar.]

Many people were eagerly waiting to see what number Beckham would be given but the Galaxy number 23 said there was no significance behind his choice of the number 32.

Beckham also revealed that he had sought the advice of Italian England boss Fabio Capello, under whom Beckham also worked when playing for Real.

"He has been and is someone I have a lot of respect for. When I thought about this move I asked him for his advice.

"I had said I preferred joining Milan but I wanted to play in Italy because I wanted to play at the top level.

"And Capello was fundamental. It's right that he only picks me if I'm playing for my club.

"But he asked me to only play at the top level. This is an exceptional team, you just have to look at the career of Maldini.

"I already love this team and I want to get to know the country better as well."

Ealrier in the day Beckham had said he felt 'honoured' to be joining Milan.

"I'm honoured to be here and to play with for one of the most successful clubs in the world," he said when interviewed by Milan's official TV channel upon arrival at the city's Malpensa airport.

"I feel emotional, very emotional, I want to train hard and be a part of the team and to enjoy myself in these months.

"I've played for the biggest club in England, the biggest club in Spain and now I want to play for the biggest club in Italy.

"There are so many great players, it's an incredible club."

Beckham could make his debut as early as January 11 when Milan travel to AS Roma but he will only be available until March 8 when his loan period ends and he will return to Los Angeles for the start of the new Major League Soccer season in the US.

Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti said Beckham would have to earn his place in the team, despite a long-term injury to key central-midfielder Gennaro Gattuso.

"He's a very serious professional and we all welcome him: the club, the fans and the players," said Ancelotti.

"He can play anywhere across the midfield and a lot has been said about his free-kicks but the important things is the way he trains.

"And if he deserves to play, he will play. Is it a strange signing? Well only because it's never been done before but personally I'm very happy that he's here."
